The Alexander Stadium is a world-class standard international athletics venue in Perry Barr, to the north of Birmingham. It has been host to major events such as the Diamond League, the British Champions and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies as well as athletics competition.
The stadium was first opened in 1978 and has since been expanded. Following a £72m capital redevelopment programme in advance of the Commonwealth Games, Alexander Stadium now offers a permanent capacity of 17,250 and can be expanded up to 40,000 for major events. It is owned and operated by Birmingham City Council.
An EnviroStik adhesive system was specified as Europe’s leading manufacturer of synthetic grass adhesive systems. The main stadium has a nine line category 1 IAAF certified track. The stadium has an additional 6 lane warm up track and separate throws field. EnviroStik’s adhesive systems are widely used in sport surfaces for the benefits of their appearance, endurance in all weather conditions and lower maintenance costs.
Tenants of the Alexander Stadium include UK Athletics, the UK governing body for the sport of athletics, Birchfield Harriers, England Monarchs (NFL Europe), Birmingham City University and Midlands Hurricanes. The high-performance centre meets a wide range of sporting requirements, with an adhesive system approved by a wide range of sporting industry bodies for its rigorous and effective technical properties.
